I just tried to create a board and see how your site will operate. But I didn't get far beyond that.

(1) why was I not able to save a page I made?

(2) will I be able to save to my own computer?

(3) will I be able to print A4?

(4) because I am working with bilingual children and therefore more than one language per child, i need to be able to colour code the language for visual orientation for the children; I ussally do this with green vs yellow borders to pictures; will I be able to do this here?

(5) I assume there are only very few pictures because you are still building this up; I would be particularly interested in good photos of common household items and foods, but without any background. Some of what I am seeing at the moment is quite busy, and not necessarily suitable for children with autism.

Hi Susanne -

Sorry for the trouble and glad to see you visiting from down under.

(1) why was I not able to save a page I made?
- You should be able to save your work. It is possible that the interface didn't properly show you what to click. To save, you would click the little disk icon on the top row of PageBuilder. Did you do so and what happened if you did?

(2) will I be able to save to my own computer?
- Though you cannot save to your own computer, your work will be saved on Mrs. Riley and you can log in from any computer that has an internet connection. If you want to be able to keep your pages locally, you could print them to a PDF file. Just an idea.

(3) will I be able to print A4?
- Yes, we will offer A4 printing in the near future. I'd encourage you to visit http://mrsriley.uservoice.com and create that request which others will also be able to see, agree with, and vote on.

(4) because I am working with bilingula chidlren and therefore more than one language per child, i need to be able to colour code the language for visual orientation for the chldren; I susally do this with gree vs yellow borders to pictures; will I be able to do this here?
- This is a great idea and again, please add it to the list at http://mrsriley.uservoice.com.

(5) Actually there are a ton of pictures, infinite really. If you search for something in the upper left (above your Collection), some cards will pop up. If you don't see any ones you like, click the "New Card" button at the bottom of the panel that pops up. That will show you a panel that lets you upload your own picture or search the internet for one. The cool part is that when you find a good image, it gets saved for everyone to use.

I hope that helps and thanks for asking. Could we continue this conversation in the forums? I'd imagine other people would have the same concerns as yourself. If you're okay with that I'll copy these questions into a new message there and email you a link.

Cheers,
Ben Throop

Hi Ben,
thanks for your response.

I did click the little disk (both of them in fact), named it and clicked okay, but nothing happened. It just stayed there. Then I tried to check under "open file" but that was still empty. so nothing had happened.

as for # of pictures, I tried food and room items, but only very little came up. I understand the point about uploading and being able to share with others. But I was hoping for some short cuts to taking my own pics, which is terribly time consuming.

Thanks for your quick response.
Susanne

Hmm, that could be a bug with hitting save. If anyone else has that issue please drop a note in here.

You said "But I was hoping for some short cuts to taking my own pics, which is terribly time consuming."

That's one of the cool things Mrs. Riley offers - integrated image search. If you search for a card and don't see a good one in the results, hit the "New Card" button at the bottom of the search panel (it's got a green + on it), and you'll be able to choose an image through various image search services.

As more people do this, the main card library will grow larger.

Hi Linda - Sorry for the printing difficulties. Anyone else having issues printing?

1) Can you print from other applications like Word?

2) Are you hitting the little printer icon in PageBuilder? That's how PageBuilder prints. If you choose the browser's File->Print command, it will try to print all of PageBuilder including the interface.

3) What happened when you tried to print?

Cheers,
Ben

When I hit the print button (the little printer) by page that I made gets really big and freezes the page. Nothing prints out. I can print other stuff.

Linda -

When the print button is hit, a new panel pops up that shows the page along with two buttons... "Cancel" and "Print". In order for the printing to start, you'll have to hit Print on that panel.

Now, it sounds like somehow your screen is a size where that panel might be too big for it, in which case the buttons would be hanging off the bottom. If your computer were running at a lower resolution (below 1024x768 pixels for the techies), that could be the problem.

If that's the case you'll want to increase the resolution of your screen. Let me know and I'll walk you through it, if needed.

Cheers,
Ben

Hi Ben
That was my problem. I had my resolution set too big so I changed it and it printed great. The pictures are awesome;

Thanks

This is a great (!!!) resource! I am not having trouble printing. The preview showed a landscape page that printed up portrait style, but the printing was clear.

Can't wait to really dig into this, my son was looking over my shoulder and saw pictures for the Thomas trains. :)

My only question is, once this gets going, how much is it going to cost us to continue? (I know it should cost us something, as all this hard work is not without price!)

Thanks!
Lucette :)

Got to playing with PageBuilder...great picture library, my little son was so excited to see pictures that he recognizes.
This program is QUITE a gift to our family! Thank you!!

However, I was unable to save OR to print any of the sheets that I tried to make...I would hit the print button, which brought up my printer, but it didn't print anything, and just stayed "stuck" on that same PageBuilder screen. ( I am able to print from other applications, this was the only one that caused failure.)

I haven't gone poking to see if my file saved on Mrs.Riley or not yet...if anyone sees one called AJ#1, that would be us. :)

Thanks again, and blessings to all,
Lucette (AJ's mom)

I too am having problems printing. From previous comments, I think it might be my resolution size (?) as a larger picture pops up but I can't see a cancel or print button. How do I change the resolution?

About Mrs. Riley

Mrs. Riley was created so professionals, teachers, and parents could collaboratively make educational materials, starting with picture cards. If you've ever made a picture card with a custom image yourself, you know that it can be tedious. We understand and after going through it ourselves for so long, we decided to wrap the entire process into a single online application.
