My specialty is web development, but since joining the team here at Mrs. Riley I've been doing all the autism and special needs research I can. Google gives a huge array of sites, but I'm interested in what the community really flocks to.
So, this is one for any teachers/parents/specialists. Where do you go to get the latest news and information about autism, Asperger, and other special needs?
Thanks so much! Those are some great sites. No one seems to have any forums or anything though. Where does everyone go to talk? I'm still in the phase of pure information gathering, but I like hearing about people's experiences.
I belong to a few YahooGroups...that is where I find folks to chat about experiences and even some problem-solving. :)
There's enough of them out there...easily searched.
Hope that helps!
Thanks again for this wonderful product. We are most blessed here to have it!

Yeah, there are a lot, that's thing... Is there a single site where the majority of everyone goes or is there pretty much just a whole bunch of little communities? For example, as player of mmorpgs I know that most players check out mmorpg.com at least once a week. I can always go to individual game sites. but this place is somewhere I know that I can get all the big news about all the games.
I already belong to two yahoo groups. The emails are constantly pinging my inbox. I tend to prefer forums though, and a single place to grab the latest news.
If it is the case that all of the groups do their own thing then I guess I can always aggregate into some kind of mega-feed.
I'm a Speech-Language Pathology Grad Student so my experience with this is still "fresh" but I recently used this blogger cite for a class project and found it interesting and useful. There are family members of autistic children, as well as people with autism blogging - there's lots of interesting info & stories on this site! Hope it helps!
I believe the name is Michelle Winner, not Winger as listed here. Unless there are two different people with names that close.
I use the message boards at www.autism-pdd.net regular for information as well as to vent about our problems. There is a cross section of people from all across the country as well as some other countries. Some posters actually are on the spectrum themselves and give great insight as well as useful ideas.
this is a great tool.....thanks a bunch!
Nick, I'm from Brazil and I work with persons with autism. I don't know about a forum, we tried to do one but it's verry difficult. But if you need some experience with autism maybe I can tell you. I work to person with do no speak and they use Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) to comunication with us. Sorry, my english isn't good.

About Mrs. Riley
Mrs. Riley was created so professionals, teachers, and parents could collaboratively make educational materials, starting with picture cards. If you've ever made a picture card with a custom image yourself, you know that it can be tedious. We understand and after going through it ourselves for so long, we decided to wrap the entire process into a single online application.

Good for you! But watch out: collecting info on ASD and related special needs can become an obsessive pastime.
I enjoy:
USAAA (US Autism & Asperger Association)--great news updates, research updates, therapy approaches--and there are many links from their homepage
Autism Society Canada
National Autistic Society (autism.org)--Great articles and links
Social Thinking (Michelle Winger)--social building programs for high functioning or Aspie individuals
Pyramid Education Consultants (PECs Creators)--great articles, links and research listings for Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), visual supports and scheduling
Hope that helps get you started!
Thanks for your work,
Andra
