Any suggestions for how to find vague or abstract ideas to make a card?

Example: My son has a problem right now with pushing. I'm trying to get across that if he pushes his sister, that he will get a certain consequence. I have a First/Then board, and I need to make the appropriate cards...

I'm still pretty new to this, but pictures are my son's lifeline. He can read, but it doesn't always get through (he's 5 1/2, if that helps.)

Thanks!

Hi Lucette!

Have you tried searching for the pictures you think would work best by using PageBuilder and the search panel? If you do this you may find some of the pictures/symbols you are looking for. If not, look under the search results and click on the button labeled "New Card" and there you will be able to search the web for images or upload your own.

Does this help? If not, please tell us so we can figure out how to get you what you need. And.. welcome to Mrs. Riley! I'm glad you are here.

Cheers,

Kristin

Yes, I tried that...it's just sometimes hard for your basic "mom" to come up with the "right" picture to describe how to do something. :)
For example, I was trying to come up with a picture for "obey"...but had trouble coming up with something reasonable.
I'm still VERY new to this picture making thing, so I'll keep plugging away. Thank you for making this program, it is INCREDIBLE. I can't tell you how much my son loves it...

Lucette,

Hi there! "Obey" is definitely a hard concept to represent in picture or symbol form. Maybe this will help...
In the past I have used either an image representing "listen" or an "ear" that I have labeled listen. In this case you can use 'good listening' as a way to represent following directions. Does this help?
If not, please let me know so I can brainstorm other ideas with you.

We are thrilled that your son loves Mrs. Riley. You have no idea how much it means to us to be able to help your family.

Cheers,

Kristin

About Mrs. Riley

Mrs. Riley was created so professionals, teachers, and parents could collaboratively make educational materials, starting with picture cards. If you've ever made a picture card with a custom image yourself, you know that it can be tedious. We understand and after going through it ourselves for so long, we decided to wrap the entire process into a single online application.
